Ukulele Safari & more

by

Can’t believe how many ukulele things are in the zeitgeist at the moment. In order of importance…
1) Saturday 13 March at 7pm those intrepid and charming ukulele ambassadors Bosko & Honey bring their round-Australia Ukulele Safari (with international guests) to Adelaide. Local uke players (and their friends and family) are enthusiastically invited to this free concert, sausage sizzle and AUAS performance. It will be hosted and filmed at Stage Philharmonic in College Park (near the Hackney Hotel – see AUAS email for details). This happy event will print us even more indelibly on the world ukulele map, so consider songs for us to perform, and dress everyone in your party in colourful shirts and hats for Bosko & Honey’s DVD and YouTube site! (You can view B&H’s previous world safaris on Youtube). Bring your chairs, picnic rugs and drinks. And for sausage acquisition purposes, could you let us know by 11 March if you’re attending and how many in your party? Even if you don’t eat sausages. Thanks.

2) Saturday 20 March. We’ve been invited back to perform at A Day on the Green at Aldinga – those southerners just love ukes, clearly. It’s most likely to be a 30-40 minute set in the late afternoon. If you’d like to be part of this (or just find out more) email Rosalie

3) Lady Carol and her ukulele won lots of hearts in last year’s Fringe. She’s back this year with more songs and more uke. Let us know if you find any other fringe or festival shows featuring ukuleles.

4)  Cairns Ukulele Festival – first week in July 2010 – have announced some special guests and sent their first newsletter. Check out their website and sign up for updates.

5) Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters. This utterly mad mash-up of a beloved novel now features a ukulele. Who thought Miss Austen could be improved?
